Overview
First Take is an independent actor preparation app operated by Hryhoriy Pasternak. This policy explains what we collect, where it goes and what you control.
First Take is an account-based app, and your prep work is stored on our servers so it can sync to your account. This includes script text and imported PDF sides. If your material is protected by a nondisclosure agreement, read the Your script content section before importing it.
Data we collect
Account information
- Name and email address.
- Whether your email is verified.
Your prep work
- Auditions, scenes, Prep answers and notes.
- Script text and PDF sides you paste or import.
- Markup and annotations on your sides.
- Run Lines data, including scene text, assigned lines and pacing.
- Journal entries and outcomes you log.
Subscription information
- Whether you have an active subscription or trial, and its dates.
- A RevenueCat customer identifier.
We do not collect payment-card details. Apple handles App Store payments.
Your script content
Stored on our servers. Imported PDFs and script text are uploaded and stored on our servers, linked to your account, until you delete them.
AI-assisted processing. Some First Take features send relevant script or preparation content to OpenAI to provide the requested result, including text used to generate requested audio. For difficult scans, selected page images are sent only with your consent. We send only what each feature needs.
OpenAI retention. OpenAI does not use API inputs or outputs to train its models by default unless an organization explicitly opts in. First Take does not opt in. Under OpenAI's standard API data controls, content may be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, or longer when legally required.
Hands-Free mode. When you use Hands-Free, your device's speech recognition listens while you practise. On iOS, Apple provides this service; audio and the expected line text may be processed by Apple's speech-recognition service rather than only on your device.
What this means practically. If material is protected by an NDA, it will be transmitted to and stored by us and processed by OpenAI. Some NDAs prohibit this. Check your agreement before importing protected material.
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs.
- We do not opt in to using your content to train AI models.
- We do not share your prep work with other users.
How we use your data
- Provide and maintain the app and sync your work.
- Parse sides and generate the tools you request.
- Send account-related communications.
- Respond to support requests.
Third-party processors
- OpenAI: relevant script and preparation content, including text used for requested audio, and selected page images when you consent.
- Apple: App Store payments and speech recognition in Hands-Free.
- RevenueCat: subscription status.
- Resend: your email address and one-time sign-in code delivery.
Each third party is governed by its own privacy policy. We share only what the requested function requires.
Data retention
Your prep work is kept until you delete it or delete your account. Temporary parsing jobs for PDFs imported outside an audition are held in memory for 30 minutes and then discarded. Apple and RevenueCat may retain payment and subscription records under their own policies. Deleting a First Take account does not cancel an Apple subscription or delete Apple or RevenueCat records.
Your rights
You may access the personal data we hold, request deletion, delete individual auditions and their server-side data, and opt out of non-essential communications. When you delete a prep, the app also attempts to remove that prep's device-local sides, markup and linked Run Lines sessions, and tells you if local cleanup fails. You can delete your account from Account inside First Take.
Account deletion removes server-owned First Take data. The app also attempts to clear First Take data from the device and will tell you if any local cleanup fails.

Children's privacy
First Take is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will notify users of significant changes by email or in the app.
